Mark L. Richardson
June 19, 1952 ~ July 12, 2026
Born in:
Indianapolis, Indiana
Resided in:
Plainfield, Indiana
Mark L. Richardson, 74, of Plainfield, traded his bass guitar for heavenly strings on July 12, 2026, passing away peacefully at The Gathering Together, surrounded by the deep peace and love he deserved. Mark was born on June 19, 1952, in Indianapolis, to the late Richard K. Richardson and Eula Yohler. On March 26, 2011, he married the love of his life, Debra (Jackson) Richardson, who shared in his beautiful, music-filled life and survives.
Mark spent his professional years working in packaging for the Allison Division of General Motors, but his true life’s work was woven into the chords and melodies he created. A profoundly talented musician, Mark held down the rhythm of his faith by playing bass in worship bands across the community, serving at Grace Church, Hoosier Harvest Church, and most recently, his beloved church home, Mt. Gilead Church. Music wasn’t just a hobby for Mark; it was his sanctuary. At one time, his home echoed with the vibrant history of a vast collection of at least 30 guitars, and he poured his heart into creating sound in his custom basement studio. He loved sharing his gift, playing in various local groups and lifting spirits wherever his amplifier was plugged in.
When he wasn’t holding a guitar pick, Mark was entirely content with a fishing pole in his hand. He spent countless blissful hours on his boat, finding quiet reflection on the water. A man of quiet depth, he was also an avid reader and a devoted, faithful servant of God. Mark’s warm presence, steady rhythm, and gentle spirit will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by his loving family, his church community, and the many friends who shared his journey.
In addition to his devoted wife, Debbie, survivors include his loving sister, Pam (Tim Ferguson) Richardson; his stepchildren, who he loved as his own, Eric (Danielle) Wright, Rebecca (Danny) Ford, Heather (John) Hawkins, and Megan (Nathan) Taylor; and ten grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.
Mark’s Life Celebration® Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 39 East High Street, Mooresville. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026. A service celebrating his life and faith will follow at 6:00 p.m., with Fred Schmidt officiating. Cremation will follow at the Morgan County Crematory, Mooresville.
Instead of flowers, the family strongly encourages honoring Mark’s memory with a contribution to The Gathering Together, the special place that provided him with such tender care and comfort at the end of his journey. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home, or donations can be made by visiting: The Gathering Together. So sorry for your loss
Wish I could have got to see him, he was a great friend and brother !
He’ll be playin that Bass guitar in heaven that’s for sure ❤️
DEBBIE YOU WERE SUCH A GOOD WIFE TO MARK. GOD WILL BLESS YOU FOR ALL YOUR GOOD CARE TO HIM.
We were blessed to have Mark and Debbie with us at Hoosier Harvest Church for several years. Mark not only pounded that bass guitar, but he and Debbie have been tenacious Fantasy Football players every year in our church League (Debbie just beat me in the championship this past year).
Mark’s Christianity was solid, consistent and unshakable. That faith is now being rewarded by God’s Grace. God peace and perspective to you, Debbie, and may God reward you for your stewardship of this kind man.
Mark was truly a kind and loving man to everyone he met. He was always interested in hearing about my life and what was going on with my kids. He was blessed with a wonderful wife and lots of friends who loved him. I’ll see you soon with Jesus my friend!
Our heartfelt condolences to Debbie and the entire family. It was a privilege to care for and get to know him during his time with us. We hope you find comfort in the love of family, the support of friends, and the many cherished memories you shared together. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
— Your friends at The Gathering Together
Haven’t seen him for quite a while now. We went to Speedway together. He was on the first softball team I put together in about 1974. He could hit hard and far. We were Yankee fans and went to Chicago together to see a couple games. He stayed at his sister’s and I at my cousin’s.
He drove and we had a great time basking in Yankee glory about late 70s or early 80s. He was so nice and caring. One of his best childhood friends was Mark Wooten who was deaf. Mark communicated with him when none of the rest of us kids could. We were apprehensive but he wasn’t. I felt sorrow when he was sometimes taken advantage of. But, Mark always looked on the bright side and I was glad to be his friend and have him as mine. He was a hockey official too. I will miss him and wish I could have talked to him again as I often thought of him and wondered about him. Never got to meet his wife but am glad he found love. Hope I can make it to the service but will be playing in a senior softball tournament Friday in Columbus. If possible I will be there to offer verbal condolences as well as this written one.
Mark was one of my close friends in High School. He was a groomsman in my 1975 wedding. We stayed in contact until the late 80’s and drifted apart after that. Rest in peace Mark. You were a good friend and I regret not keeping in touch.
