Olen Davis

Olen Davis, age 86, of Mooresville, IN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Mooresville. His last spoken words were “I love you, Ella” to his granddaughter. His son was at his side. He was born in Knott County, KY on March 19, 1936 to Stumbo Davis and Bertha King Davis and was raised in Kite, KY. He attended Alice Lloyd College and Morehead State University where he studied mathematics.

After college, Olen briefly taught school in Kentucky and then moved to Indiana to seek other opportunities. He worked for Greyhound Bus Lines for over thirty years. After retiring from Greyhound, he drove bus tour groups throughout the Midwest. Olen served his country in the United States Army.

Olen enjoyed reading the newspaper, watching sports on television, especially Kentucky basketball, solving Sudoku puzzles, playing cards, having breakfast with other retired Greyhound drivers, and spending time at the athletic events of his grandchildren. He could often be seen at Mooresville sporting events carrying his folding lawn chair and, after he became ill, arriving in his wheelchair. He was a fixture for several decades at the Kentucky Boys’ State Basketball Finals. He coached his children and the children of others in the Mooresville Basketball League and Mooresville Baseball League. He was a natural coach!

Survivors include his wife Betty Davis, brother, Banner Davis, sister Anna Hall, daughter Vickey Davis, sons Kevin (Dena) Davis and Kenny (Crystal) Davis, grandchildren Morgan (David) Walker, Zachary (Brianna) Davis, Karsen (Justin) Cornett, Ella Davis, step-grandson Gage Bates, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Olen was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Reece, Arnold and James Davis, and sisters Pauline McConnell, Locie Blair, Reedith Gibson, and Lizzie Jane Moore.

A viewing for family and friends will be held at the Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville on Tuesday, April 26th from 4-6pm. His military burial will be at Indiana Veterans Memorial National Cemetery in Madison, IN on Wednesday, April 27th at 11:00am.

  3. I am so sorry to I just heard the loss of your Dad and Grandpa. I had enjoy talking to him at girls basketball and Volleyball games. I got so tickle at him , he would be yelling at the girls and the refs, ( told the refs that they needed to move a little faster to see the call before they tried to make the call). Overall he loved all the girls and his sweet Ella. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during difficult time. God Bless…ߙϰߙϰߙϰߘ¢ݤ️ Shirley Shafer( Ava’s grandma
