Penny Newman

Mary “Penny” Rippy Newman, 69, Brooklyn, died peacefully at home on September 15, 2013, at 12:50 a.m. Mrs. Newman was born May 27, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late William Robert Green and Lorraine Johns Green Scott.

A devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Newman was a proud homemaker. She enjoyed playing bingo, cards, crocheting, and was known to buy an occasional lottery ticket. She will be missed by her loving family and many friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Willard Eugene Rippy, Sr; son, Williard Eugene Rippy, Jr.; daughter, Rosalie Annette Rippy.

Survivors include her loving husband of 46 years, James A. Newman; son, Jamie A. Newman of Brooklyn; daughters, Kandy Star Rippy Mullins of Brooklyn and Leisa Newman Peals of Georgia; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren.

Friends and family will gather on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, 4 to 8 p.m., in the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Additional visitation will be held in Myers Funeral Home, 315 Scott Street, Tellico Plains, Tennessee, from 2 to 4 p.m., Thursday, September 19, 2013, with services there at 4 p.m. Burial will follow in Brown Hill Cemetery, Tellico Plains.
