Samuel C. Layton

Samuel C. Layton, III, 85, Camby, passed away May 16, 2022, at the Waters of Martinsville. Sam was born March 28, 1937, in Indianapolis, to the late Samuel Clarence Layton, Jr. and Georgia (Noel) Barker. He married Sheilia Lucille (Redding) Layton on April 16, 1974, after having met at an Easter egg hunt. Love at first sight – the newlyweds blended their families, and Sam was a loving husband and father to his wife and children.
A proud American, Sam served in the United States Air Force for a total of 18 years. He had a love and fascination for airplanes. Following his military service, he worked for more than 20 years at Toyoshima Special Steel. Sam’s family was his everything, and he was known to treat Sheilia like a queen. He was a man of strong faith and was always faithful in his Pentecostal beliefs. Sam also loved all kinds of animals, from snakes to cats. Sam’s memory will be forever cherished by loving family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, James Alan Layton and Samuel Clarence Layton IV; daughters, Pauline Martin and Brenda Jo Feltner; brothers, Michael and Patrick Layton.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Sheilia; children, Joseph Paul Moorefield, Jr., Mary Margaret Hampton and Linnie Marie (Tracy) Purchase; siblings, Robert Layton, Richard Layton, and Linda Davis; many grandchildren, great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Sam’s Life Celebration® visitation will be Thursday, May 19, 2022, 4 to 8 p.m., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Pop ! You were a very special person in my life and I adored you like a father . I have such fond memories hanging around your house with Mary , Jimmy, Buster, Lynn, BJ, Pauline & mom in my youth … I remember you taking me to a coffee break one time , then you paid to put me in lock-up there as a joke … you will be sadly missed but always in my heart forever . One of my fondest memories of Sam was when I was visiting with Shiela and Sam.We we’re setting on the porch talking about his airforce days.He proceeds to yell get down incoming I about messed myself .I dropped down to ground and he says got you .He was laughing and smiling.Never ever will forget that.Love you Aunt Sheila .Buster.Mary.Hugs
