Steven Louis Mascher

Steven Louis Mascher, 79, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. He was born on June 23, 1947, in Indianapolis to the late Harold Mascher and Harriet (Noelker) Mascher.

He grew up with a love for speed and a passion for all things with a motor. A proud graduate of Manual High School, he quickly turned his drive into a successful career as a tool and dye maker at General Motors, where he dedicated many years of his life before retiring. He also is the proud owner of Sam Saloon, a historic bar in Fountain Square. He has owned the business since the 1970s.

Throughout his life, Steve was known for his love of racing, having raced in high school and continued to embrace that thrill well into adulthood. His enthusiasm for boats, cars, hot rods, and motorcycles was infectious, and he often shared these joys with others.

Steve was a doting grandfather who cherished every moment spent with his grandkids. Whether it was a drive for delicious milkshakes or teaching them to ride their bikes, Steve’s playful spirit and warmth made him an unforgettable presence in their lives. He found much joy in his time spent in Florida, especially in Fort Lauderdale, where he enjoyed time on his boat and the tranquility of the water.

He will be deeply missed by many including his son, Adam (wife, Kelly) Mascher of Martinsville; daughters, Stacey (husband, Mike) Priami of Carmel and Katie Mascher of Indianapolis; girl friend, Kathy Mahurin; brother, Wayne Mascher; and grandchildren, Brayden, Bryson, Cole, Leeyah, Phoenix, and Brody.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Mascher; and sister, Joan Mascher.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, September 3rd from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. Steve’s earthly remains have been cremated at The Morgan County Crematory and will be laid to rest in Brooklyn Cemetery at a later date.
