I met Tom when I started working at Newby Elementary many years ago. I was always amazed how much that man could eat and NEVER gain an ounce! It was so easy to talk with Tom and he was always ready to help when needed. He will be missed.
I went to Newby Elementary and seeing Tom was the highlight of my day! I stayed at the after school YMCA program, and I would always be so excited to ask Tom if I could help him take out the trash. He never turned me away, although I’m sure I probably slowed him down. I was and will always be a huge fan of Tom; in fact, I don’t know a kid at Newby who wasn’t a fan of his.
I was a Newby kid from K-6 and Tom was always there through all my years. I loved seeing him in the mornings when he would open the car doors for us to get out and go into school. I never remember seeing him have a bad day. He was always smiling and willing to let us students help out. I can remember his loud laugh and his long beard. He was such an amazing man. He will be a Newby legacy.

Tom was a fellow Newby staffer and a friend. He had a kind heart and a good sense of humor. It was always nice to see Tom on his daily rounds at school, because he would try to say something silly or nice just to brighten the day. RIP, Friend. Hope you are enjoying the other side.- “Mr. Carroll’s mom”
