Walter R. Stone

Walter R. Stone, 63, Martinsville, died August 4, 2011, in the Emergency Room at IU Hospital, Martinsville. He was born January 15, 1948, in Winchendon, Massachusetts, to the late Stanley A. and Irene Ida (Reed) Stone.

Walter attended Mt. Wachusett Community College and served in the United States Army. He later served in the United States Army, serving in intelligence at the Pentagon and The White House. He was honorably discharged in 1985. In civilian life, Walter worked for Great Western Boot Company as a manager, for Eddie Bauer, and most recently at the Scholars Inn Bakehouse in Bloomington. He was an avid biker, reader, and enjoyed volunteering, especially with initiative to assist veterans. He was also proud to help in any way to benefit various Humane Societies.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara and Violet.

Survivors include his friend, Carl Brown of Martinsville; brothers, Foster, Richard, and Leonard Stone; a special niece, Ellen Stone; numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation will take place at the Morgan County Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. A Life Celebration will be held at a future date.   1. Walt and I lived together in Plainfield, we had a dog and 2 cats, We had fun, Josh our dog loved road trips. We often took to Bloomington for haircuts from Vicki and then over to Nashville. Went to Indiana Beach many times. I miss him so much Love you old man always
