Zi Jiang Qiu, 75, a cherished member of the Mooresville community and the longtime owner of the former Hong Kong Restaurant, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, after a brief illness. He was born on August 23, 1950, in Tai Shan, China, to the late Kwan Hup Yau and Cai Juan Chen.
Zi’s life was shaped by courage and determination. In 1981, he made the difficult decision to leave his homeland and begin again in the United States. He arrived with little more than an unwavering work ethic, deep integrity, and the hope of building a better life for his family. After spending several years in Noblesville, Zi and his family settled in Mooresville in 1994, where they opened the Hong Kong Restaurant — a place that would grow into Bing’s Chinese Restaurant and become a gathering spot for countless friends, neighbors, and loyal customers.
Zi found joy in the simple, steady rhythms of life. He was an avid gardener who could coax beauty out of any patch of soil. He loved to cook, especially for the people he cared about. And he never passed up the chance to try his luck at the casino, always with a quiet grin and a hopeful spirit. Above all, Zi was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather — fiercely loyal, protective, and guided by a moral compass that pointed unfailingly toward honesty. To know Zi was to know a man who meant what he said and lived what he believed.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 44 years, Jin “Lisa” Qiu; his children, Bing (Dat Ly) Qiu and Eric Qiu; and his treasured grandchildren, Peyton, Olivia, and Lauren. He is also survived by his sister, Li Peng Mei; his brother, Zi Qi Qiu; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will carry his memory forward.
A private family visitation and funeral service will be held at Carlisle–Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood. Friends are invited to share memories or sign the online guest registry at www.CarlisleBranson.com.

Uncle Ricky was a very quiet, sincere wise man. I really miss him. As I remember him during the times I visited him as a young kid in Anderson and the times in Marion at Toy Sun’s Restaurant, he was a man of quiet strength and deep dedication. Though he spoke very few words, his actions spoke in loud volumes in the kitchen and in the garden. Rest in peace, Uncle. Thank you for everything.
Bing, very sorry to here of the loss of your father. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
