Barnie Wayne Lee Nuckels

Barnie Lee Nuckels, 41, Brooklyn, passed away November 18, 2023.  Lee was born September 10, 1982, in Indianapolis, to the late Barnie Wayne and Kimberly (Spann) Nuckels, who survives.  Lee recently married Hope (Burgess) Nuckels, and she also survives. 

Lee attended Martinsville High School and later earned his GED.  He most recently worked for Morgan’s Corner Café as a dishwasher and also the cook for the famed Friday night catfish dinners.  Lee enjoyed collecting, listening to music, and spending time with his family.  He had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger.  Lee was a devoted son who loved his mother immensely and was very loyal to his sons.  His memory will be cherished by his loving family and many friends.  

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jesse Nuckels. 

Survivors include his wife, Hope; his mother, Kim; sons, Jesse and Ezra Nuckels, Andrew Stogsdill and Jay Strole; brother, Jaden Nuckels; maternal grandparents, William and Diana Spann. 


Lee’s Life Celebration® Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 39 E. High Street, Mooresville.  Visitation will be Monday, November 27, 2023, 5 to 8 p.m., with services beginning at 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2023.  Burial will be in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville.  Visit

I remember sneaking out of Mom’s house in the middle of the night and going over to your house in Brooklyn to smoke and the whole time I was there you were saying “Ronica your mom’s going to kill me” 🤣 needless to say you were one of my fun uncles one I told my secrets to and I knew they wouldn’t be shared with the world! I wish I had more time with you more recently but people get busy but we will have time again soon I love you uncle Lee ❤️

  4. I was in complete and utter shock when I found out. Lee always made you laugh, no matter the situation, if you weren’t laughin, he wasn’t leaving you alone until he got one out of you. You’re an amazing guy Mr. Lee we are all gonna miss you 🖤

I’ve known Lee since the middle 90s and we made a lot of great memories, I moved into the old schoolhouse in 1998 the same year that you and I went to a festival on April 20th and had the time of our lives for 2days and 3 nights…we never post touch and you have always been an honest (sometimes brutally honest) friend that would do anything for a friend

  7. Lee took me under his wing when we worked together. He would do everything to cheer me up, protect me from a creepy man, or just do my job for me when I was having a tough day. I’ll never forget the role you played in my life, I wish I could’ve said goodbye one last time!

  9. Lee & I divorced on November 20, 2015 but stayed civil none the less. He has one of the funniest, yet darkest sense of humor ever!! Lee & I have been friends since the early 90’s. Him passing is definitely a great loss and very heavy on my heart and mind. Keeping u all in my prayers and my condolences to Kim, Jaden, Nana, Jess, Ezra and Hope.

Lee, I don’t even know where to start, Lee picked on me in elementary school alot, that’s how we met..lol..but we became friends and over the last 30+ years, Lee was my brother, one of my best friends, we were ALWAYS there for each, no matter where or what we were doing in our lives, he had my back & i had his. Lee you will be BADLY missed by A LOT of people 🙁 I love you brother 🙁
